Joint research on a traffic monitoring system for buses by utilizing GPS and GIS technologies, to reduce air pollution, traffic jams, and traffic accidents, and to improve social image in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (2015)

In Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam, traffic jams have become a major social problem, and as one solution, there is an urgent need to improve the convenience of buses, which is the public transportation system. Therefore, in the joint research, we developed and demonstrated a system displaying the operation information of buses on maps in real time. We focused heavily on the simplification and low-cost installation of the system, and we made the system available not only to bus users, but also the public, and attempted to relieve traffic jams by allowing more people to browse the traffic congestion information, in addition to improving the convenience of bus users. In the future, we will consider expanding the system to other routes and taxis, expanding the system to other cities, providing road condition status information to traffic police, increasing users, and improving the information displayed.

Bus services and the current traffic situation can be checked using not only tablets, but also PCs and smartphones.
In this project, an information transmission device has been installed in buses, but it is possible to check more detailed information on the situation by deploying the device in taxis and other vehicles.
