Research project on problem solving and its ICT solution (mobile application) for supporting farmers in Bangladesh (2016)

In Bangladesh, about half of the population is engaged in agriculture, and they expect the utilization of ICT in the agricultural sector. We established cooperative relationships with the Communications Regulatory Agency, Ministry of Agriculture, etc. and started a mobile application development project for supporting farmers. Then, we conducted a proof-of-concept in a farming village in Dhamrai District, about 40 km northwest of the capital Dhaka, and after evaluating the operation, we opened the project to the public free of charge. With the agriculture mobile application, it is possible to search for weather forecasts, acreage information by crop, a list of contact persons at the Ministry of Agriculture, crops by soil salinity level, and pesticide-free crops and methods for growing them. In the future, the application will be utilized at the Ministry of Agriculture, and we plan to expand its functions.
