Assistance Service for NASDA i-Space Experiment

KDDI Foundation undertook a consignment order from National Space Development Agency (NASDA)*1 and conducted an assistance service on i-Space*2 Digital Divide Dissolution Experiment*3 from November 2001 to August 2002. The Foundation provided the assistance service for demonstration of satellite internet experiment hosted by NASDA at Miyagi prefectural government. Furthermore, the Foundation conducted inquiry surveys to persons participated to the digital divide dissolution experiment at each area of Japan, analyzed the survey results and submitted a report to NASDA.

NASDA is going to build up the space infrastructure using communication satellite to set up IT (Information Technology) society which realizes the comfortable life. In addition, i-Space means the future space conception, which is built using the leading IT technology.

NASDA implemented a pilot experiment to realize i-Space using existing satellites in order to develop a new utilization area and arrange technical issues. There were several experimental items in the pilot experiment. Digital Divide Dissolution Pilot Experiment is an experiment on contribution method to eliminate the digital divide in depopulated area by using satellite internet in a positive way.
